Seaspan Shipyards’ new chief operating officer is joining the B.C. company from Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia.

Jari Anttila brings more than 25 years of experience in shipbuilding and industrial operations.

Seaspan Shipyards owns Vancouver Shipyards and Vancouver Drydock in North Vancouver and Victoria Shipyards, which operates out of the federal Esquimalt Graving Dock.

Vancouver Shipyards is building non-combat vessels for the federal government. Each vessel comes to Victoria for trials and finishing work.

“The company is leading the redevelopment of Canada’s shipbuilding industry,” Anttila said in a statement.

Anttila served as senior vice-president at Philly Shipyards, and was executive vice-president, chief operating officer and senior vice-president with Meyer Turku and its predecessors in Finland.

He said he aims to increase organizational and operational efficiency at Seaspan by ensuring needed controls, procedures and systems are in place.
